Grounded Learning CE is an online continuing education provider for licensed electricians and electrical contractors. We offer NEC-based CE courses, specialty courses, and exam preparation materials. All of our content is developed by a licensed Master Electrician with over 25 years of field experience.
We are actively seeking approval from 24 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin. Visit our homepage map to find your state’s specific requirements.
All courses are developed by Shane Buck, a Michigan-licensed Master Electrician with over 25 years of hands-on experience, an IBEW JATC apprenticeship, and previously held multi-state Contractor’s licensing (Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana). Our courses are written by someone who has done the work — not outsourced to generic content writers.
We are in the process of obtaining approval from each state’s electrical licensing board. State approval status varies — check your specific state’s page for the most current approval information. Courses that have not been approved by the respective state licensing board will not be available for purchase.
Courses & Content
Each course module is a self-contained lesson with a built-in timer that tracks your active time. You read through the material at your own pace, and the timer ensures you meet the minimum time requirement (typically 50 minutes of active engagement per CE hour). You can pause and resume at any time. Each module includes quizzes and a final assessment, and your certificate is generated automatically upon successful completion.
Each individual module is designed for 1 CE hour of instruction. The built-in timer enforces a minimum active engagement time. Most students complete a module in 50 to 75 minutes depending on their reading speed and experience with the material.
We offer courses based on four NEC editions: NEC 2017, NEC 2020, NEC 2023, and NEC 2026. Which edition you need depends on which NEC cycle your state has adopted. Check your state’s page on our site for guidance on which edition applies to you.
Currently waiting approval from Texas and Florida with additional states to follow. These are professionally developed Spanish-language versions — same technical content, same CE credit value.
We offer specialty courses in emerging electrical technologies: EV Charging Infrastructure, Solar Photovoltaic Systems, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Smart Building Technology, and Grid Modernization. We also offer industrial courses covering AC Motors, DC Motors, Motor Controls, and Variable Frequency Drives. Additionally, we have a 6-hour NFPA 70E Electrical Safety series.
State Requirements
Visit our homepage and click on your state on the interactive map. You’ll see your state’s CE hour requirements, renewal cycle, which NEC edition applies, and links to your state licensing board’s official CE requirements page.
Yes. States like Florida and Washington require specific state-mandated topics as part of your CE renewal (for example, Florida requires courses on state laws/rules, business practices, and workplace safety). We offer dedicated state-specific modules for these requirements.
In many cases, yes — if both states have adopted the same NEC edition and don’t have conflicting topic requirements. However, each state has its own approval process and may have unique requirements.
Certificates
Your certificate is generated automatically as soon as you successfully complete the course assessment. You can download it as a PDF immediately — no waiting period, no manual processing. The certificate includes your name, course title, CE hours earned, completion date, and our provider information.
Reporting requirements vary by state. Some states require the CE provider to report completions directly; others require the licensee to submit their own certificates. Check your state’s page for specifics. Regardless, you’ll always have your certificate available for download from your account.
We retain all course completion records for a minimum of seven (7) years from the date of course completion, or longer if required by your state. We recommend keeping your own copies of certificates as well.
Exam Preparation
CE courses teach specific NEC topics and earn you continuing education credit hours. Exam prep is designed to help you pass the Journeyman or Master Electrician licensing exam. Exam prep includes timed practice exams that simulate the real testing experience — including a single countdown timer for the entire exam, just like the actual licensing exam.
No. Exam preparation courses are designed for licensing exam preparation, not for continuing education credit. They are separate products with separate pricing. If you need CE hours, check our Course Catalog for CE-approved modules.
The Journeyman Exam Prep package includes 30 full-length timed practice exams. The Master Exam Prep package also includes 30 exams with more advanced scenarios. The Complete Combo gives you all 60 exams at a combined discount. Each exam includes detailed answer explanations with NEC code references.
Billing & Refunds
Pricing varies by state and course type. Visit your state’s page to see approved courses and current pricing. See our Course Catalog for full pricing details.
If you have not completed a course, you can request a refund of your purchase price minus a 3% administrative fee that covers non-refundable payment-processing costs (credit card and PayPal transaction fees). Once a course is completed and the certificate has been generated, no refund is available. If a technical issue on our end prevents you from accessing or completing a course you’ve already paid for, we’ll issue a full refund with no fee deducted. Texas students: if you have not started a course, TDLR rules entitle you to a full refund with no 3% admin fee deducted; the standard 3% applies once a course has been started. For full details, please see our Refund Policy page.
Exam prep is governed by a separate tiered refund policy, because exam prep is a study product without a single completion milestone. Within 30 days of your purchase: if you’ve attempted 0 exams, you receive a full refund (minus the 3% admin fee); if you’ve attempted 1–50% of the bundle (1–15 of 30, or 1–30 of 60 in the Combo), you receive a 50% refund (minus 3% on the refunded amount); if you’ve attempted 51% or more, no refund is available. Refund requests submitted more than 30 days after purchase are not eligible regardless of usage. The Combo (60 exams) is treated as a single bundle for tier purposes. See our Refund Policy page for the full tier table and a worked example. (Effective for exam prep purchases made on or after April 2, 2026.)
We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover) and PayPal. All transactions are encrypted and PCI-compliant.
Technical
Our courses work on any device with a modern web browser — desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and smartphones. We recommend a screen size of at least 7 inches for the best reading experience, but all courses are fully responsive and functional on smaller screens.
Your progress is saved periodically. If you lose your connection, your progress up to the last save point will be preserved. When you reconnect and return to the course, you can pick up where you left off. The timer only counts active time, so any disconnection won’t count against your required hours.
No. Everything runs in your web browser. There’s nothing to download or install. Just log in and start your course.
